Down By The Riverside
We all have a Bucket list, and a visit to Kerala was added to mine a long time ago. After a couple of plans during school and last minute cancellations, I finally got lucky. We were all invited to a beautiful traditional Kerala wedding right in the middle of monsoon, one of the best times to be there. From buying the first Kerala saree to planning the ensembles, everything about it kept me giddy & on my toes for about a fortnight. The three hour drive from Trivandrum Airport to the quiet town of Chengannur, snuggled in the eastern part of the Alappuzha district of Kerala, was breathtaking. Watching the night sky filled with stars and hearing the rain pour down while the coconut trees shook heartily were our favourite things to do, amongst many other things, during our stay. A week’s gone by and even after, I still have withdrawals.
The backwaters were nothing less than what I had imagined it to be. Picture perfect and right out of the pictures that I’d been seeing for all these years. One could endlessly stare at the colors, the quietness and stillness of the river water. It was an ideal location for this vague-yet-clear-in-my-mind outfit I had in mind for a while. Traditional Indian colors and elements with the right touch of femininity, showcasing a woman celebrating her sensuality amidst the nature. Nostalgia took over as we looked at the ripples created by the pebbles we threw in the river and watched the paper boats we left race to an unknown destination, trusting that it ended up where it should be.
